Pricing Methodology
NVC Market is a public enterprise. Our goal is food access, not profit.
Cost-Based Pricing
We set prices based entirely on our costs. We calculate the cost of goods sold (COGS), add a small percentage to cover our operational costs (wages, utilities, facility maintenance), and that is the price on the shelf.
We do not add a profit margin. When our suppliers lower their costs, we lower the shelf price. When ingredient costs rise, we must raise prices to cover the difference.
No Sales, No Promotions
You will never see a "Buy One Get One Free" sign or a limited-time sale at NVC Market. Promotional pricing requires marking up items to offset the cost of the discount elsewhere. We believe citizens deserve the lowest possible baseline price every day.
We do not create urgency around food.
Transparent Increases
When a price increases, we publish the reason. Most often, this is due to seasonal supply fluctuations or changes in supplier costs from NVC Supply Co.
"The price is the price it costs to get the food to the shelf."
